Sources and corrections

GeoFootball publishes a football geography game and the Football atlas. The atlas adds explanations of places, tournament formats and venue names to the match records used in the game. GeoFootball is the publisher; it is an independent fan project, not a competition organizer or an official football statistics service.

Match records and original commentary

The question bank includes public-domain OpenFootball datasets and individually sourced moments. Software converts match records into questions, including different questions about the same match. A score, date or fixture list is source data rather than original reporting. The public match archive is a reference for players, and repeated match summaries are grouped in its lists.

The venue explainers and atlas guides are original explanatory writing. They connect the records to a geographic distinction: for example, a final played at a neutral ground, a stadium rebuilt at the same location, or a tournament whose edition name differs from its actual date. The sources are linked so a reader can check the factual basis separately from that explanation.

Which source answers which question?

FIFA, UEFA and other competition organizers are preferred for final venues and match accounts. OpenFootball supplies many historical fixtures. Map references identify the point used by the game and can be inspected on OpenStreetMap. The About page identifies the datasets, map services and image credits.

A city question can use a city reference when the underlying dataset does not establish a specific stadium. It should not be presented as a surveyed stadium location. Historical venue names are kept in context rather than silently replaced by a current commercial name. A future host announcement is not treated as proof of where a completed match was played.

Corrections

Use Report a bug or correction with the page URL, the disputed fact and, where possible, a competition-organizer record. Reports are saved for the site operator and sent through the configured email service. We check the cited evidence before changing a record. A source link does not make a dataset infallible, and an unverified report is not automatically accepted.

Dates marked “sources checked” describe a factual review of that guide, not the date of the football event. They are changed when the guide is reviewed. There is no claim of an independent newsroom, on-location reporting or endorsement by a team or player.
